Free Yourself Designs

When I was in college I became friends with very creative, talented and interesting people. One of those people was a guy named Jamaul Smith. He's definitely the epitome of underappreciated. I reconnected with him years later when I started doing stand up comedy because I know how wonderful an artist he happens to be. We used to take his artistic talent and promote events when we were President and VP of Black Artists League at Syracuse University. When I did my first self-produced anniversar...

One Girl's Giggle is my fave

If I could attend a comedy show every single day, I would. Even if I wasn't on the show. Unfortunately, work and location prevents me but I can always count on One Girl's Giggle to let me live vicariously. She reviews comedy in Rochester, my home away from home away from home.

I'm very flattered by the mention in this particular one. The headliner EDR, or Earl David Reed, was a pleasure to work with. That's not always the case, trust me. Anyways- check it out.

How to Get Booked

Whoo! Breathe.

Okay here goes.

I book events months and months in advance, unless it's an open mic or whatnot. I also get a lot of private messages from comics from all over, surprisingly, asking me to put them in shows. What they don't understand is a lot of factors go into booking the few shows that I do produce.  I don't personally produce that many shows anymore because I'd rather eat glass. Also, I tend to book people more who show up to support me even when they're not ...

Get it? OCD? Deez Nuts? hahahaha

Oh man 2012? No end of world? What a letdown. I've been lied to!

Ah well.

I can't believe I'm still doing stand up comedy. It's kinda amazing considering I am a commitment-phobe. The only other thing I've stuck with this long is not turning on the heat in my apartment because I'm cheap and don't want to pay a higher gas and electric bill. That's what coats and blankets are for.

The holiday season ...

Black Susan Boyle

I feel like the Susan Boyle of comedy.

I'm not cool. I can't dress. I'm broke. I'm fat. My hair is a mess. And sometimes people who don't know me laugh AT me or look upon me with doubt that I have any value...until I get on stage. Then I get lucky, not always ...

Too Easy

Posted by annadreambig on October 30, 2012 at 6:55 PM Comments comments (0)

I have been pretty busy lately, coasting, having fun, planning my next move. A lot has happened the past couple of months, including performing in some really great shows. I had the opportunity to perform at Ithaca College in front of anywhere between 750 to 1000 people, a great audience. I thought I might be too old and out of touch with 18 year olds to really do well, but I got lucky. I also had the fortune to perform at Fort Drum, a military base a couple of hours north of S...

Done and Done

With so much drama in the comedy, it's kinda hard being A- double N- A P. But I, somehow, some way, keep coming up with funny ass shiz like every single day. ...

Blah, blah blah it sounded cooler in my head.

For something that's so supposed to be full of laughs and giggles, stand up comedy is way too dramatic.

But everyone is entitled to their opinions. Even if I disagree or think it needs not to be spread like a cancer all over the interwebs.

Those Who Can, Do...

I'm beginning to think in comedy that those who can, do and those who can't, don't do it. No, please, I am begging you, don't do it! It's painful to watch. I'm not trying to be a smartass. Really I am not even sure what category I fall into yet. But this thought usually comes up when I hear the countless rape, abortion, racist, feces, etc. jokes that just don't seem funny at all.

Everyone has their own tastes and judg...

Past presents the Future

I'm horrible at maintaining a blog. After a while it becomes like homework and I just don't feel like it anymore. I'll try this time. In the meantime, you can read my super secret, no one knows about it because I don't promote it or keep it up-to-date, blog from the past. I have a feeling history will repeat itself.

Here's a link to a post from 3 years ago that didn't suck like much of the rest of them.
